AFTER A week of bad weather which restricted training, Javea hosted
Torrevieja at their temporary pitch in Gandia. During the previous
week, no less than six first team players were unable to play, leaving
the combined 1stXV and 2ndXV players to step up. The match started evenly for the first few minutes: the centres proved
elusive and Javea tackled poorly. A break-through from the Bulls’ back
line ended in a penalty after two minutes play for a tackle off the
ball from a Torrevieja player.

Denia travelled to Elche early last Sunday morning for an 11:00 kick off and played as if they never got out of their pyjamas. It took four minutes for Denia to score a try by Gevinno, who took
advantage of a loose ball and pounced over for the unconverted try.
Then blame what you want: early 08:00 start; many injuries and
unavailability; people again playing out of position or Elche B playing
with the skill and expertise you would expect from their disbanded
first team.

THE WEEKEND started with the juveniles playing at home against Elche in
an entertaining game of rugby with Elche going 14-0 early on. Orihuela
hit back with two tries of their own from Alvaro and Enrique, with
Carlos converting one of them; miracles do happen. Pedro reckoned the second try was one of the best he has ever seen.
Going in just behind at half time, Orihuela came out pressing hard for
another try to win.

LAST SUNDAY, Denia had to make seven changes from the regular team
followed by the retirement of two squad players in the pre match warm
up. All this and four players playing in different positions made hard
work of the 13 v 29 defeat of Novelda Gigants. Denia started very slugishly after the long Christmas break but swift
passing by the new three quarter line resulted in a try for Karl in the
corner.

AFTER A convincing win against Elche, Javea Bulls was hoping to have a
2nd XV match against Denia last Saturday but due to a first team away
game Denia didn`t have enough players, which was disappointing after
they have had so many new registrations this season. Without a match, concentration turned to boosting the work rate on the new pitch situated behind the Javea Football stadium.
