W
hen a client approached the team at 'Pet Care,' asking them to take care of his parrot while he returned for a short visit to the UK, they were only too happy to oblige. However, 5 months later their feathered friend has long outstayed his welcome. A man called in to the 'Pet Care' store in Benijofar in December requesting that the staff look after his pet parrot for a period of nine days while he returned to the UK.  Owner, Denise said that they would be glad to have him and that the charge would be just 3 euros per day or 36 euros in total, which was agreed.  He later telephoned to say that he had made alternative arrangements.  Surprisingly he arrived at the store with the parrot on 3rd January, telling Veterinary Surgeon, Pepé Sanchez, that he had made the necessary arrangements with Denise.  He swiftly departed, leaving the parrot in a small cage with only enough food for a week. The confusion meant that they had no contact details for the owner, but were not worried at that time. However, when he had not returned by the end of the month, Pet Care provided a new cage for the bird and it was presumed that he had been abandoned.

CHARLIE
The next surprise came on 2nd April, when the owner telephoned Pet Care to say that he was waiting for some money to arrive from the UK and would then collect the parrot and in the same instance bring his dog to see the Vet.  Denise kept a record of his mobile telephone number in a bid to avoid further misunderstanding.  Several days passed and again he never arrived, so Denise telephoned him, leaving a message on his voicemail service. This process was repeated on numerous occasions, until two weeks ago, when she tried the number and the line was completely dead. Assuming the telephone has been lost, stolen, or broken or that the owner may have simply returned to live in the UK, Pet Care is once again perplexed as to what to do with the parrot.  Although he seems adamant that his name is in fact 'Charlie,' and that he is a 'pretty boy,' he has yet to reveal the one vital piece of information which the staff requires- his address.  And as the owner was no Captain Jack Sparrow, but an average late forties to early fifties British male, they have very little on which to base their search. Denise explained that they do not have an issue in keeping the bird at the store as there is plenty of space there for him, but would like confirmation as to what action they should now take. A number of clients have expressed interest in the bird, but Denise is reluctant to re-home him without the owners consent.  She said, "Money is not the issue, and I'm sure we could come to some arrangement if the owner is experiencing some degree of financial difficulty.  We are more concerned for the best interests of the parrot."
