Something for everyone
T he Murcia town of San Javier is best known as the home of Spain's fastest growing airport and another fast growing business has just touched down there. Best Wishes Spain is a firm favourite with foreign residents enjoying life in the sun. While the lifestyle is great there are one or two areas where people from other countries find that they can't buy the things they need. Best Wishes steps into the gap with a big range of items that solve all the problems. The Best Wishes stores have become well established in recent years and now a new shop has been opened next to the new Mercadona supermarket at San Javier, in the new Hispania shopping centre. The list of products and services on offer is excellent. There is a huge selection of English and Spanish greetings cards for all occasions, balloons, personalised helium balloons, balloon in a box etc, candles, banners, badges and confetti, a wide range of gift wrappings and bags, DIY card making kits and accessories, traditional sweets and chocolates, postcards, maps and guidebooks. In addition English daily newspapers and magazines are on sale, together with Euro Direct and Orange phone cards, sim cards and mobile phone top-ups. The popular OFFEX postal service for the UK is on offer, together with a passport courier service to Madrid. Photocopy and faxing is available and secure postboxes are available for less than 25 cents a day.
San Javier is expanding fast and the town is very popular with foreign visitors and residents. One attraction is the fact that there are seven or eight golf courses nearby and the beaches of the Mar Menor line the edge of the town. Quality developments are bringing more and more foreigners and Best Wishes is just the place for them to find the things that just aren't available in Spanish stores. Already, Best Wishes shops in Puerto de Mazarrón, Camposol, and Nueva Condomina, near Murcia City, have attracted lots of regular customers. The Best Wishes operation was founded about six years ago and it is expanding fast. The San Javier shop is run by Andy and Kathy, originally from Bromley, Kent, and they are enjoying meeting lots of new customers. "We have cards for everyone and for every occasion, from birth up to 90 years old," said Andy. "If we can't get it no-one can." If people want to bring a really personal touch to their best wishes for family and friends then the DIY sets are ideal. There are colourful and stylish elements to allow a full range of creative expression. Phone cards are very popular as is the reliable postal service. Many people who have holiday homes in the area find the mail boxes ideal for making sure that they receive mail, as do residents with uncertain deliveries. An interesting range of books is available for people to brows through and there is also the catalogue for BookWorld, which contains "the best choice of reading in Spain." The catalogue of hardbacks and paperbacks includes fiction, with all the top authors, non-fiction and even "rich and famous" and "tear-jerkers" sections. Not surprisingly, there are a large number of books about Spain, including language, law, travel, culture and history. Pop into Best Wishes at San Javier and you are sure to find something that you need. The shop is open from 10.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday.
