Residence Certificates Now Available In Altea

Following hard lobbying by the Altea Town Hall, the ‘Office for Foreigners’has opened, making the need to queue at the Benidorm police station for NIE numbers or Residents Certificates unnecessary!

The office is taking over the full administration of the processes relating to Foreigners on a rolling programme, but the process for issuing NIE numbers and Residents Certificates are in place.  The services of the office, which is financed centrally not by Altea Town Hall, are available to all Foreigners living in the Marina Baixa, from Villajoyosa to Denia.

Processing NIE numbers for all foreigners and issuing Residents certificates for EU citizens are amongst other duties for which this office is responsible. All Foreigners living in Spain are required to have an NIE number for identification on all manner of forms and beaurocratic processes, such as utilities; licenses; certificates; inheritances; health care; buying and selling property etc. The office also processes work permits (non EU citizens), judicial issues relating to foreigners who break Spanish laws, entry permits and matters relating to repatriation.

The office processes NIE numbers and EU Residents certificates (Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la union) in usually about one working week, as the documentation has to be sent to the Police commission in Benidorm for validation. The address in Altea is Calle Labrador 4, Altea (near Palau)

For a same day service, it is necessary to visit the police commission in Benidorm. Calle Apolo XI, 36 Benidorm Tel.: 966 831 930 - Opening Hours 09.00 to 14.00.
