Battle Plan

Campaigners fighting urban abuse across Spain meet on Saturday to plan their strategy following the European Parliament’s adoption of the hard-hitting Auken Report.

Organised by AULAN (Abusos Urbanisticos Levante Almeriense – No!), the round table discussion at Mojacar will feature a number of regional associations and ecologist groups and MEP David Hammerstein is attending as a special guest.

Veteran protesters from the Costa Blanca’s AUN, the first and largest group fighting Valencia’s notorious ‘land grab’ laws and calling for the protection of  human rights and the environment, will be present at the conference.

The AUN played a significant role in Danish MEP Magrete Auken’s report, which condemns the lack of rights in Spain for homeowners and abuses of the environment – and enables EU funding to be frozen until controversial legislation is repealed.

And the aim of the meeting is to allow the various groups to work together to demand that the recommendations made in the European Parliament’s resolution are put into action.

The public meeting starts at 11.00 on Saturday (May 30th) in the conference hall of Hotel Best, Mojacar Playa, Almeria.
