menor505.jpgCleaner Beaches On The Mar Menor

The municipalities of the Mar Menor have introduced new beach cleaning machines for this summer. The Mayor of San Javier and President of the Tourist Federation of the Mar Menor, Pepa Garcia, along with the Director General of Infrastructure for Tourism from the Murcian Department of Culture and Tourism, Marina García, presented the machines at a press conference in Santiago de la Ribera, earlier this week.

The three new machines that have been acquired will clean the beaches of the municipalities of San Javier, San Pedro de la Pinatar and Los Alcazares. Marina Garcia also announced the forthcoming delivery of a fourth machine to the city council of Cartagena. The four high tech machines have been made in Spain by the company Beach Trotters and have cost a total of 240,000€, 75% of which has been financed by a subsidy grant from the Department of Tourism Infrastructure. The four Town Halls involved have also contributed 25% for their individual machines.

Best Beach Conditions

Ms Garcia also explained that the Murcian Regional Government has earmarked more than three million euros for the Mar Menor and said that more improvements will be made as part of that earmarked budget. The Mayor of San Javier, Pepa Garcia, told waiting reporters about the outstanding benefits of these new beach cleaning machines. She said; “Besides cleaning, they oxygenate the sand, which in turn guarantees the best beach conditions as it disinfects as well as clearing sharp or dangerous objects”. The machines are dragged by a tractor that regulates the depth of the cleaning and the consistency of the sand that it removes.  It then sieves, redistributing sand back onto the beach leaving it clean, smooth and more importantly, safe.
