President Camps well suited for the Frax
The president of the Valencian Government, Francisco Camps, officially inaugurated the Frax Foundation in Albir, Alfaz del Pi on Tuesday evening.
After almost two decades after the first bricks were laid, the Frax Foundation building was finally and officially opened by Francisco Camps and to the public with a magnificent exhibition of the works of Ramón de Soto. The auditorium, known and named after the local artist Pedro Delso, was the venue for the very first full scale public display.
The person responsible for the Frax Foundation building, Matías Pérez Such was joined by Vicente Arques the Mayor of Alfaz, Jose Luis Castroverde the President of the Frax Foundation Association, Salvador Vidal vice-president, Pablo Clavijo the Treasurer and Mayte Garci'a the Councillor for Culture and Education to greet Camps who, in turn, praised the artistic talents of De Soto. Camps also unveiled a commemorative plaque in the foyer to mark the occasion.
After the formalities and declining to respond to any questions from the press, Camps effectively high jacked the occasion in a blatant electioneering campaign where he got ‘touchy and feely’ with the those present in the main auditorium. He spent more than two hours, an almost unprecedented period, discussing politics and personalities with what seemed to be a carefully selected guest list.
Taking advantage of Camps’s presence, other less enthusiastic individuals make up of a group of ten local lawyers, mounted a protest outside the front door. They carried a placard protesting against the non-payment of the ‘honoraria’ usually paid to appointed legal representatives. On the placard it said, “You pay for witnesses to attend court but you won’t pay their lawyers!” And, obviously in a reference to other recent episodes: “Less Ferrari and more justice.” Camps made a much less spectacular exit via the rear emergency exit to avoid inflaming the situation.
The building, located between the Calle King Jaume I and the waterfront at Albir Playa, has been standing idle whilst a long litigation process took place. The 15,000 square metre building could become one of the most significant Arts, Science and Tourism centres in the Marina Baixa. The interior of the building has been tastefully decorated and includes a new 500 seat auditorium, the 1,500 square metre Pedro Delso exhibition hall and underground parking for up to 200 vehicles. It is also be equipped with the very latest technology in air conditioning and security, to protect the valuable works of art and other items that will be on display. According to the President, the final cost was around 12million euros. It is anticipated that the new cultural complex will attract important activities in the field of Painting, Music and the Arts, as well as other academic activities organised by the three Spanish universities involved in its redevelopment.
If you would like to join the Frax Foundation Association, you will be given unlimited annual access for a ‘one of’ fee of 10 euros (6 euros for pensioners and students). For this sum you will receive a personal invitation for all Frax Foundation exhibitions and presentations and be given discounts to other extraneous activities.
