The Mayor of Torrevieja, Pedro Hernandez Mateo, highlights the projects included in the plan.
Council Approves the Plan Confianza
Representatives of the Valencian Government gave their seal of approval to a number of projects made possible thanks to the ‘Plan Confianza’.
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Pedro Hernández Mateo, accompanied by the Councillor for Contracts and Major Projects of the Generalitat Valenciana, José Antonio Sánchez, and the Councillor for Works and Services, Javier Montoro, examined the projects currently being executed and in particular those financed by the ‘Plan especial de Apoyo a la Inversión Productiva en Municipios de la Comunidad’ (Plan Confianza), launched by the Valencian Government to try to aid towns and cities across the region through the crisis.
Torrevieja was allocated the sum of 20,560,005€ from the Generalitat, the largest amount for any town of the Vega Baja and the fifth largest overall. The Mayor revealed that the implementation of each of the eight projects currently underway within the city will have a huge impact on its economic output and could generate as many as 500 jobs whilst they are being rolled out. He said that three of these had been contracted directly by the Conselleria for Infrastructures, whilst the remaining five had been actioned by the City Council.
INFRASTRUCTURE
One of the most ambitious projects approved by the Plan Confianza is the Reurbanization of the town plan for Nueva Torrevieja, an investment of 1,900,772€.
The street Calle Torrevejenses Ausentes will also be given a makeover, costing 725,403€, with the intention of pedestrianising and improving infrastructures. A pleasant walkway will be created from the Paseo Vista Alegre to the Plaza de Oriente.
The third project is the creation of a proper market place, to receive a grant of 5,328,885€ over the 83,000 sq m plot. Mr Hernández Mateo said that the weekly market and various others organised regularly throughout the year will be held within the new purpose built square.
RESURFACING
The Mayor went on to speak of the remaining projects approved, to include the opening out of the ‘Vial Rosa Mazón Valero’ avenue, with a budget of 1,080,956€. Resurfacing of various roads across the city were allotted the sum of 2,764,236€, affecting the urbanizacions of Lago Jardín I and II, Lago Sol, Los Balcones, La Hoya, San José (Sector 10), Polígono Casagrande, Punta Víbora, Torreta Florida, Torreta I, II and III, El Limonar, La Loma, Becisa-Los Ángeles and Calas Blancas, as well as many commercial zones.
One of the most important social projects included in the plan is the creation of the ‘Centro de Rehabilitación e Integración Social’ (CRIS), the contract for which has been awarded to Murcian company ‘Guifersol SA’. The project is to cost 1,760,000€, of which 638,327€ has been subsidized through the Central Government’s loyalty fund; the rest through the Plan Confianza.
MUSEUM
In addition, the Plan Confianza will finance the construction of the incredible Semana Santa Museum, with a whopping 5,844,146€ investment in two stage payments. The modern and innovative six storey building will be located on the Avenida de las Habaneras on a plot of 670 sq m. It will feature an exhibition hall to house the fiestas thrones, store cupboards, a cafeteria and offices.
Finally, the City Council approved plans for the construction of a new fairground, on a plot of 22,000 sq m and construction of a central control building on a plot of 530 sq m, at 1,794,016€, to provide the perfect venue for the many concerts and spectaculars hosted within the city, and is hoped will attract increased celebrities from overseas.
