Overcome Insomnia
INSOMNIA AFFECTS over 40 percent of adults worldwide on a frequent basis. However, some experts estimate that almost all of the adult population have suffered with insomnia at some time in their life.
People who suffer from insomnia often find it difficult to lead a normal life and may have some of the following symptoms:
Feeling depressed, irritable or angry; waking far too early and then being unable to get back to sleep; feeling tired and not refreshed on waking; trouble thinking clearly or staying focused, making it hard to concentrate during the day; headaches.
Some of the common causes of insomnia include a change in lifestyle, such as separation or divorce; a hormonal change in the body; mental conditions such as depression or anxiety disorders; and increased external stress, perhaps work related or the credit crunch causing financial difficulties.
Some medications have been linked to the development of insomnia, but usually the condition will disappear once the person has stopped taking the medications. Insomnia can also occur as a result of frequent night time disruptions, such as the crying of a baby; dogs barking; nightmares that wake the person or even the need to go to the loo in the middle of the night.
One of the most common reasons that I experienced over the 25 years that I have been in practice at my Northern Ireland clinics was (and still is) the husbands or wives of members of the security forces and worrying about them being on duty at night: or the woman who came to me for a cure for insomnia after waking up one night to find 4 gunmen standing around her bed!
INSOMNIA CAUSED BY EARLY PROGRAMMING BY PARENTS
Many people have been taught a little bedtime prayer that goes like this;
“As I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
And If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
What the parents (unknowingly) are telling the child is that if they go to sleep they might die, and this is being repeated to them every night for years! This can give rise to the DON’T SLEEP- WON’T DIE syndrome. The child is waking up every night to check if they are still alive!
At the time of writing this article, I have a young boy of only 10 years of age coming to me with this very same problem.
Insomnia is one of the easiest conditions to treat with Fast Track Hypnosis, which can help to re-educate the mind when it comes to sleep disorders.
Usually whenever a client plays my CD after their session they will normally fall asleep while listening to it, so much so that I have to inform them that it is perfectly okay and normal to do so!
It is always advisable that a person with chronic insomnia that does not respond to standard treatment consults a doctor before using Hypnosis, as there might be a more serious cause behind their problem.
Over the years my waiting room walls have gathered quite a lot of letters from past clients telling of how my Fast Track Hypnosis has helped them.
Many people coming through my door for the first time will say to me, “I bet you haven’t heard of my problem before.” I would then point out a letter from someone with a similar problem.
Here is one about Insomnia:
“Dear Alan,
I have waited until now to write to you because I wanted to give myself time to get properly into a sleep pattern again- after 6 years of not sleeping it took a bit of time! First of all thank you, I have received the best present ever; a regular sleep pattern! Since I last saw you it has been brilliant, leaving me much more sociable, confident, relaxed, but more importantly - HAPPY. I only have the odd bad night but that’s nothing because I know the next night I’ll sleep! I hope everything is well with you. What you do is very important and to know someone is there who can help and understand means an awful lot. Regards Anita…”
